That rice which is not offered to Gods or that where Vaiswa deva* is not performed should not be eaten , even if it is our own teachers house.

Vaiswadevam is mainly done for removing our sins committed in unknowlingly killing insects and others.


There  are  5  ways  of  placing  the Bali.  ChakrakAram  is  considered  the  best  way . There are manthrams for receiving the annam for VaisvadEvam from the hands of Pathni(wife). There are specific anna vibhAga (division) kramams and directions to invoke vaisva DevA: ( Sarva DevA: , whose antharyAmi is the Lord ). There are 22 Balis to be invoked  and parishEcahnams . Pathni has to remove Pithru Bali and Rudra Bhali. Pancha Yajjnam follows.  Vaayasa Bali and SvAna Bali are the last of the Balis.

Food is a gift from God and it should be treated with great respect.  The physical body is called annamayakosh or the food body because it is nourished by food and grows by 

Those who prepare food for their selfish ends eat but only sins. (Bhagavad Gita 3:13)

All beings come into existence from food.  Food comes from rains.  Rains originate from the performance of sacrifices.  Sacrifice is born out of doing prescribed duties (BG 3:14)

He who nourished neither the god nor a friend, he who eats alone, gathers sin (Rig Veda X. 117).

Any rajasic or tamasic substances or qualities hidden in food will not do any harm to us if food is offered to god and five vital breaths because the blessing of god and devas will nullify any bad effects in the food.
