DO’s AND DON’Ts IN DAY TO DAY LIFE - PART 15

BhOjanam after athithi sathkAram follows(feeding one’s guest with respect).

Wash your feet, hands and do Achamanam.  Then come to the place of eating.

Before eating food, You have to keep some cooked rice separately for Vaisva deva and offering it to God. Till  Pranagni  hothram is done we should  not  eat  any  thing.   As soon as the rice is  served, we have to hold the leaf.

Take some water in your right palm and put it around your leaf (plate) in clockwise direction and chant the following mantra:
‘Om bhurbhuvassuva:’

Some do nyasam by chanting the following mantra.
prANAgnihotramanthrasya bhrahmA rushi: (touch top of the head)
anushtup cchandha: (touch the tip of the nose)
vaishvAnarAgnirdevathA (touch the heart)
prANAgnihotrE viniyOgha: (both the palms together do the
semicircular motion starting from outside towards you)

Again take some water in the right palm and put it around your leaf or plate in clockwise direction and chant the following mantra.

sathyam thvarthEna parishinchAmi (during the day)
rutham thvA sathyEna parishinchAmi (during the night)

Then using thumb, index finger and middle finger of left hand partially lift the top left corner of the leaf or touch the plate.   You can skip this step if perumal theertham is self-served.

Sprinkle perumal theetham onto the food. Second, hold the perumal theertham (pAdhyam) and wait until it served to all.
