FRIENDSHIP

 मत्या परीक्ष्य मेधावी बुद्ध्या सम्पाद्य चासकृत्।
श्रुत्वा दृष्ट्वाथ विझाय प्राझैर्मैत्रीं समाचरेत् ।।

மத்யா பரீக்ஷ்ய மேதாவீ புத்யா ஸம்பாத்ய சாஸக்ருத் ।
ச்ருத்வா த்ருஷ்ட்வாத விக்ஞாய ப்ராக்ஞை: மைத்ரீம் ஸமாசரேத் ।।

(An intelligent person should enter into friendship with other intellectuals only after carefully testing them, thoughtfully investigating their behaviour (several times), having listened to them, having seen them (in action) and after obtaining full knowledge about them)

(அறிவுள்ளவன் மனதாலே பரீக்ஷை செய்து, புத்தியினாலே நிர்ணயம் செய்து, நிறைய நல்ல விஷயங்களைக் கேட்டு, கண்களாலே பார்த்து, நன்றாக தெரிந்து கொண்ட பிறகு சான்றோர்களோடு ஸ்நேகம் வைத்துக் கொள்ளவேண்டும்.)
